fun story about us …
Rewind our story by 9 years: 2008. Lucas and I had been on a handful of dates by this time. He invited me to come along to a volleyball tournament that he was playing in one weekend and mentioned that they start early and suggested that I spend the night to make it easier in the morning.
Ohmygoodnessss, first sleepover! He said “I will sleep on the couch” – I laughed and agreed & panicked. Not only was this the first sleepover, it was the first time I went to his place.
I packed my overnight bag + beach bag and nervously drove to his house. I finally settled my nerves (kinda) as I got closer … only to find that I was lost. Go figure. You guys, keep in mind this was before Siri/GPS was a thing. This was the good ‘ol, write down the directions, pick up the phone and call kind of date. I started to panic because one: I was going to be late (I hate being late); two: I was lost. So, I pulled off to the side of the road and called him … he didn’t pick up. I felt like I was going to puke. I gave it a minute and called back. Lucas must have been equally nervous that day because he was the one that gave me wrong directions! He realized he told me to turn left when I should have gone right.
[to this day, E V E R Y time I pass the intersection of Camino Real & Military Trail I think of this day]
I pulled up, parked my car, took a deeeeep breath & was greeted with a smile and a hug that I can still feel. I remember what he was wearing, how he smelled and the way the weather felt that day – this is the best part … I walked in the door and Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson was on. It was one of those moments that became a building block to the beginning of us. My nerves were calmed and I felt “home”. When you know, you know. “Better Together” … still …. ten years later and I am happy to say he is still the only man I ever want to make Banana Pancakes for.
In 24’ish hours; Lucas and I will be at the Jack Johnson concert in West Palm Beach having the time of our life and adding to our memory bank. Never stop dating your Husband, never stop flirting with your Wife.
What is your favorite Jack Johnson song?
